Turkey plans to send commandos to Kosovo on June 4 and 5 in response to a NATO request to join the alliance's peacekeeping force KFOR following unrest in the country's north.
The news was announced by the Turkish Defense Ministry, which called for restraint and constructive dialogue to resolve a crisis it said could undermine regional security and stability.
"Our designated unit (a commando battalion) is scheduled to be deployed in Kosovo on June 4-5," the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced.
The situation in the north of Kosovo continues to be tense, since the Albanian presidents took office in the Serb-majority area of ??the region, which led the US and its allies to reprimand Pristina.
The majority Serb population boycotted the April elections, allowing ethnic Albanians to be elected.
During last Monday's riots, 30 KFOR peacekeepers and 52 Serbs who protested against the appointment of mayors were injured.
The violence prompted NATO to announce it would send additional troops to the Balkan country to prevent unrest.
