Turkey is considering reinstating the death penalty

Turkey will consider reinstating the death penalty. This was announced by the Turkish Minister of Justice Bekir Bozda?.

In 2004, Turkey abolished the death penalty, but President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said that justice should be more severe, after a person set fire to the coastal forests of the Aegean, writes Reuters.

"The punishment for burning forests must be intimidating, and if this is the death penalty, then let it be," Erdogan said.

Speaking to reporters in the eastern city of Agri on Saturday, Minister Bozdag said the president's comments were instructions for them.

"We have started working on this as a minister," Bozda? said, adding that the current sentence for setting fires was 10 years in prison./euronews
