Trump: Putin avoids meeting with Zelensky because he doesn't like him

US President Donald Trump said today that Russian President Vladimir Putin is avoiding meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky because he "doesn't like him."  

Trump met separately with Putin and Zelensky this month as part of his effort to broker peace, but no progress has been made and Russia has continued to bomb Ukrainian cities.

"Every conversation I have with him is a good conversation. And then, unfortunately, a bomb is dropped in Kiev or somewhere else, and then I get very angry about it. I think we're going to end the war. It's hard... Strange things happen in war," Trump said.

During his speech at the meeting with the new South Korean president, Trump made statements about the possibility of ending Russia's war against Ukraine. He said he intends to organize a meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and Russia, but then added that this may not happen at all.

Trump met with Zelensky at the White House on August 18, three days after he first met with Putin in Alaska. Zelensky said after the meeting that Ukraine is prepared to hold talks with Moscow without preconditions./CNA
