Vance: Trump is engaged in energetic diplomacy with Kiev and Moscow

US Vice President JD Vance rejected suggestions that Moscow is slowing down a possible peace deal in Ukraine, saying Russia has made significant concessions on demands to end the war.

In a pre-recorded interview that aired Sunday, Vance insisted that Trump, who met with his Russian presidential counterpart, Vladimir Putin, this month at a summit in Alaska, has engaged in very energetic diplomacy with both Moscow and Kiev in an effort to find a compromise solution that would stop the war.

Trump has supported a bilateral meeting between the Ukrainian and Russian presidents, but both sides have blamed each other for their unwillingness to hold talks.

And while Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Western countries on Sunday of trying to block peace negotiations, Vance offered a more conciliatory approach to Washington's early adversary, saying Russia was not pushing Trump to act.

"I think the Russians have made significant concessions to President Trump for the first time in three and a half years of this conflict. They've actually been willing to be flexible on some of their key demands. Russia has acknowledged that they're not going to be able to install a puppet regime in Kiev. Again, have they made all the concessions? Of course they haven't. But we're making progress," Vance said on NBC's "Meet the Press with Kristen Welker."/ CNA
