Berlusconi's 'Certosa' villa up for sale/ 500 million euros from

Villa Certosa, Silvio Berlusconi's iconic villa on Sardinia's Costa Smeralda, will have a new owner.

According to information from Italian media, the historic residence inherited by the children of the former Italian prime minister is close to an agreement to sell it to an unknown Arab investor, for a price approaching 500 million euros.

The process has been undertaken by Sotheby's International Realty, in collaboration with Dubai-based Knight Castle Real Estate, as well as an American company specializing in ultra-luxury properties.

As previously revealed by the Italian media 'Corriere della Sera', this is one of the largest transactions ever carried out in Italy in the high-value housing sector.

The area was given "top secret" status; the coast guard forbade anyone from approaching within a 500-meter radius, while legends claimed that the "007 pontoon" - an underground passage reminiscent of a James Bond film set - provided secret access for ships.

The property itself is impressive: a 4,500-square-meter main residence, with 68 rooms, 174 parking spaces, 4 villas, statues, a Greco-Roman amphitheater, an artificial volcano that "erupted" on August 15, thalassotherapy pools and even a botanical garden. /CNA
