"The US and South Korea need each other"/ Trump meets President Lee

US President Donald Trump hosted South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung at the White House this Monday.

At the start of the meeting, Lee thanked Trump and complimented him on the redecoration of the Oval Office.

The talks focused on trade and defense, and Trump focused on the trade deal with South Korea, saying the two countries need each other. He spoke of the mutual understanding the countries have for each other.

"We love what they do, we love their product, we love their ships, we love a lot of the things they produce. South Korea needs oil and gas, and the US will trade that with them. The US has more than 40,000 troops in South Korea. The countries have a very good military relationship. One of the things I would like to see is South Korea give the US ownership of the land where the US has built a massive military base," Trump said.

Trump and Lee will now continue their discussions privately. The two leaders are also expected to have lunch after their meeting. /CNA
