Trump harshly attacks USAID/ Calls for the agency to be abolished

US President Donald Trump today continued his attacks on the US Agency for International Development (USAID), calling for the agency to be abolished due to "unprecedented corruption".

In a post on his platform, Truth Social, Trump writes: "Corruption at USAID is at unprecedented levels. Shut it down!"

USAID, the main US agency distributing humanitarian aid globally, had a budget of about $40 billion in fiscal year 2023.

It is at the center of a new program of reorganization of public administration, which is led by Elon Musk, Trump's ally and advisor, and the richest man in the world.

This program began to be implemented after Trump returned to the White House on January 20.

Musk retweeted Trump's message, expressing support for the president's calls, calling USAID a "nest of Marxist vipers who hate America." He also criticized the agency's leaders, calling them "crazy radicals."

The Trump administration aims to reduce the number of USAID staff members, from more than 10,000 employees operating worldwide, to fewer than 300 people.
