Meeting with President Trump/What to expect from Prime Minister Modi's visit to Washington

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States next week and meet with President Donald Trump, the White House press office announced.

Modi will attend a dinner hosted by the US president during his two-day trip. The dates of the official working visit have not yet been announced.

The talks are expected to focus on trade and other issues between the two countries.

Modi will be among the first foreign leaders to meet with Trump at the White House during his second term.

Earlier, Trump held meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and is expected to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba later this week.

Modi and Trump have enjoyed a warm relationship during the US president's first term. Last week they held a "productive" phone call and discussed illegal immigration, security and trade ties, the White House said. / CNA
