Trump-Netanyahu: I support Israel's missile attacks if talks with Tehran

US President Donald Trump has told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he would support Israel's attacks on Iran's missile program if diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran fail.

According to a CBS News report, Trump's support could also include logistics such as airstrikes and refueling for Israeli operations, while a second US aircraft carrier group has been sent to the region as a sign of US readiness to provide support or protection in the event of escalation.

This development comes as the US and Iran are holding new rounds of negotiations in Geneva over the Iranian nuclear program, although tensions remain high and Israel's demands include not only the nuclear issue, but also limiting the missile program and stopping Iranian support for militias in the region.

For his part, Netanyahu has insisted that any deal must include dismantling Iran's nuclear infrastructure, not just a ban on uranium enrichment, and that Israel is willing to act to protect its security. /CNA
