Tragic in Italy! The avalanche takes down a group of climbers, 6 dead and 15 missing

At least six people were killed and ten others injured after an avalanche broke off a mountain in northeastern Italy. The glacier collapsed on Mount Marmolada, the highest in the Italian Dolomites, near the village of Punta Rocca.

The avalanche hit the group of hikers who were exploring the trail. It is reported that 15 people are still missing.

Five helicopters and dozens of search and rescue specialists have gone to the scene.

Alpine Rescue technicians have found that the mass detached from the Marmolada glacier fell at a speed of 300 kilometers per hour.

"The glacier was destabilized due to the large amount of meltwater, as the country has been affected by extremely high temperatures above average for weeks," the Meteorological Association wrote on Twitter.

The day before, the highest temperature of this season was recorded at the top of the glacier: 10.3 degrees Celsius. /CNA.al
