Terror in the Netherlands, several people are taken hostage

"Several people in the Dutch city of Ede were taken hostage on Saturday morning as authorities evacuated residents in the surrounding area," police said.

The hostage situation continues, as the police said that three people have been released.

It is unclear how many other people are still being held hostage.

The police said that there are no indications that this incident has terrorist motives.

Several special police units have been deployed to the scene, namely to a building in the center of the city, the police said through an announcement published on social networks. Security authorities added that 150 homes have been evacuated and police urged citizens to stay away from the area.

The hostages are being held at the Petticoat nightclub by a man who has weapons and explosives, the national newspaper "Telegraaf" reported, citing several anonymous security sources.

Meanwhile, the "NOS" broadcaster said that a remote-controlled robot has been deployed to the scene as well as anti-explosives units.

In the city of Ede, due to this incident, rail transport has been cancelled, said the national train operator, "NS"./ REL
