"A ceasefire must be reached urgently"/ Pope Leo welcomes Israeli

Pope Leo XIV held an audience today with the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog.

After meeting with the Pope at the Apostolic Palace, Herzog held talks at the Secretariat of State of the Holy See, with Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Paul R. Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

According to a statement from the Vatican press office, the political and social situation in the Middle East was analyzed and reflecting on how to guarantee a future for the Palestinian people and peace and stability in the region.

The statement says that the Headquarters reaffirmed the two-state solution as the only way out of the ongoing war.

" The hope was expressed for an immediate resumption of negotiations... with a view to securing the release of all hostages, urgently achieving a permanent ceasefire, facilitating the safe entry of humanitarian aid to the most affected areas, and ensuring full respect for humanitarian law ," the statement said.
