CEC draws lots for the ranking of political entities for local elections

The Central Election Commission (CEC) in Kosovo began on Thursday the process of drawing lots for the ranking of political entities on the ballot for the October 12 local elections.

The spokesperson for the Central Election Commission (CEC), Valmir Elezi, announced at the start of the process that 5,626 candidates are running in these elections, of which 206 are candidates for mayor and the others for seats in municipal assemblies.

In the local elections for 38 municipalities, 93 entities have been certified - 32 political parties, 32 civic initiatives, two coalitions and 27 independent candidates.

The Chairman of the CEC, Kreshnik Radoniçi, said at the start of the draw that this step shows that the preparatory process has entered its final phase.

"Elections are the foundation of a democracy, as through them citizens express their political will by electing representatives at the central and local levels ," he said.

Radoniqi announced that from September 17, postal voting will begin for over 260,000 registered Kosovar citizens living outside the territory of Kosovo.

The certified entities are listed with numbers from 100 to 192./ REL
