Stoltenberg: NATO should increase military aid to Ukraine
Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg

Ukraine is running out of ammunition for the war against Russia and NATO member states are not doing enough to help Kiev, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said today.

In unusual direct comments on the state of the war, Mr Stoltenberg said NATO allies had the capacity to provide more aid to Ukraine, but added they needed to prove they had the political will to do so. .

"Unparalleled support from NATO allies helped Ukraine maintain its independence. But Ukraine needs more support now," Secretary Stolteneberg told reporters at the NATO headquarters in Brussels.

"The Ukrainians are not losing courage, but they are running out of ammunition," he said.

More than two years after Russia launched its full-scale offensive, Ukraine's military is facing a significant reduction in arms supplies from the West.

"NATO allies are not helping Ukraine with as much ammunition as it needs and this has consequences on the battlefield. It is one of the reasons why Russia has managed to make some progress on the battlefield in recent weeks and months," said the NATO chief.

"It is urgent that the allies take the necessary decisions to send more ammunition to Ukraine. This is the message I am sending to all the capitals. We have the capacity, the economy, and we are capable of giving Ukraine the help it needs. It is a matter of political will. To make decisions and make aid to Ukraine a priority", he emphasized.

He added that any attempt to organize voting for the Russian presidential elections in the Ukrainian regions controlled by Moscow would be illegal./ VOA
