In a message of condolence following the passing of Pope Francis, the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, praised his figure as a symbol of universal love, compassion and dedication regardless of religion or nationality.
"His Holiness, Pope Francis, ascended to heaven today, next to the Father, to take to heaven what he left as a legacy on earth - compassion, love and devotion to every person, every believer of every religion," said President Begaj, who has been received twice in audience by the Holy Father.
The head of state added that he will remember his meetings with Pope Francis and joined the prayers of millions of believers in Albania and around the world for the peace of his soul:
"I will keep our meetings deeply in my memory. I join the prayers of all Albanian believers that his soul may rest in peace!" - the President concluded his message. /CNA
