Explosion in North Mitrovica

The Kosovo Police said that in the early hours of July 3, an explosion occurred in North Mitrovica, a municipality inhabited by a majority of Serbs.

According to the Police, the vehicle that exploded is suspected to have been a shock bomb.

The event happened at 00:52 in the Three Skyscrapers neighborhood. Police officials, according to the announcement, "did not encounter collateral damage" from this explosion.

Cluster munitions are not considered weapons of mass destruction. However, they produce loud noise that disorients the senses.

Recently, several attacks with stun grenades and hand grenades have been recorded in the municipalities in the north of Kosovo.

The last bomb attack happened in Zveçan on June 18. Also, there were shock bomb attacks near the stations in Zveçan and North Mitrovica.

On June 26, the municipal facility of North Mitrovica was attacked with a hand grenade, causing material damage. These events come at a time when tensions in the north of Kosovo have increased since May 26. That day, the new Albanian mayors of the municipalities in the north - inhabited by a majority of Serbs - entered the municipal buildings of Zveçan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok.

The Serbian population, which has boycotted the April 23 elections, has opposed the mayor's action and has repeatedly held protests in front of buildings.

The international community has asked Kosovo and Serbia to reduce tensions and organize new elections in the four municipalities in the north./ Rel
