The number of victims from the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria is over 50,000

The number of victims from the powerful earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria earlier this month has exceeded 50,000, according to the latest data published by both countries.

The February 6 earthquakes - measuring 7.8 and 7.5 - killed 44,218 people in Turkey, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency, citing the state disaster agency.

In neighboring Syria, the death toll so far is 5,900.

Since the February 6 earthquakes, according to the Turkish Natural Disasters Agency, over 9,000 aftershocks have been recorded.
