The US expands military support for Ukraine by 325 million dollars

The United States Department of Defense has announced that it will provide an additional $325 million in security assistance "to meet Ukraine's critical security and defense needs."

According to a June 13 Defense Department statement, the latest authorization marks the 40th withdrawal of equipment from Defense Department inventories for Ukraine since August 2021.

The equipment provided includes essential capabilities to help Ukraine regain its territory and air defense support. The United States of America, since the beginning of 2021, has provided Ukraine with military supplies of up to 40.4 billion dollars, while most of these supplies have been given since Russia invaded the country on February 24, 2022.

Ukraine has been amassing weapons and training forces in preparation for a counter-offensive in an attempt to force Russian troops to withdraw from large swathes of south-east and southern Ukraine, which have been occupied.

A day earlier, Russia launched a massive overnight rocket attack on the central Ukrainian city of Krivi Rih, killing at least ten people and injuring 28 others and damaging civilian infrastructure. Both Russia and Ukraine have denied accusations of deliberately targeting civilians during the conflict launched by Russia against its neighbor some 16 months ago.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said he hopes a successful offensive by Ukraine will force Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to talks on ending Russia's occupation of Ukraine.

Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February of last year. Ukraine claimed that after the launch of the counter-offensive, on June 12, it had managed to liberate four settlements in the eastern region of Donetsk./ Rel
