The United States announced on Monday that it will support Ukraine with two new military aid packages, worth about 1.7 billion dollars.

White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the presidential package, worth about $200 million, would include air defense interceptors, munitions for HIMARS, as well as mortar and artillery shells, as well as Javelin missiles and antitank.

Kirby also said the US Department of Defense will provide $1.5 billion to Ukraine through Security Assistance Initiative funds.

These resources will "strengthen Ukraine's air defense" through anti-tank and long-range weapons, he said.

Kirby's announcement comes hours after Ukraine carried out a wave of drone strikes deep inside Russian territory, damaging infrastructure facilities in two regions, Russia's Defense Ministry and regional officials said.

This is the second day in a row that reported Ukrainian attacks have caused damage to Russian infrastructure facilities.

Since launching its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Moscow has repeatedly and systematically hit infrastructure and civilian facilities in Ukraine, causing casualties and damage.

In response, Ukraine has begun targeting oil refinery facilities and energy infrastructure inside Russia, which primarily work for the Russian military.

Meanwhile, Russia carried out attacks in the southern Ukrainian cities of Kherson and Nikopol on Monday morning, injuring 20 people, including five children, regional and local officials said./ REL
