Russia does not stop the attacks/Ukraine: The situation in the south and east

Ukraine's military said late Saturday that the situation in the country's east and south "remains difficult," citing frequent Russian airstrikes and missile strikes, on the day Ukraine marked the first anniversary of the liberation of the strategic city of Kherson.

It was also reported late Saturday that Ukrainian forces liberated the village of Topoli in the Kharkiv region, about five kilometers from the Russian border.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Army said Russian forces carried out 41 airstrikes and fired 44 missiles on Saturday against "positions of our troops and populated areas", hitting residential buildings and infrastructure areas.

"Unfortunately, there are dead and wounded among civilians," the General Staff said, without elaborating.

"The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult," she said.

The military added that during the day, the Ukrainian Air Force carried out 10 strikes on "enemy personnel, weapons and military equipment locations", saying they destroyed a Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile system.

The Air Force issued a drone strike alert overnight Saturday, reporting that defense forces had destroyed drones in the Dniprepertovski, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Poltava, and Kiev regions.

The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, wrote on Telegram that anti-aircraft systems were activated and that civilians should take shelter. No injuries were reported.

The alarm was issued as Ukraine marked the first anniversary of the liberation of the southern city of Kherson, the only regional administrative center captured by Russian forces during the invasion that Moscow launched in February 2022./ REL
