Russia launched a drone strike in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, killing seven people, including three young children, causing fires and damaging infrastructure and residential homes, regional officials said Saturday.
Oleh Synehubov, Kharkiv's regional governor, said Russian forces struck the city late on Friday, hitting civilian infrastructure, causing several large fires and damaging at least 15 residential houses in eastern Kharkiv, Reuters reports.
The air force announced that air defense and mobile groups shot down 23 of 31 drones launched by Russia, which were targeting the Kharkiv region in the country's northeast and also the Odesa region in the south.
In Kharkiv, the head of the local prosecutor's office, Oleksandr Filchakov, said in a video posted on Telegram that three drones hit a gas station in the city's Nemyshlianskyi district.
Kharkiv has been under regular attack since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022 and has been a frequent target of Russian attacks in recent weeks.
