Russia carries out new drone and missile attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine

Russia has carried out drone and missile attacks on several civilian areas in Ukraine, causing civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure, the Ukrainian Army announced on October 23.

Eight civilian areas in Donetsk, Kherson, Berislav, Sumy and Odesa regions were attacked in the latest series of Russian drone and missile strikes, according to Ukraine's Interior Ministry.

In Donetsk, a building was hit and caught fire as a result, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on Telegram, without elaborating on it or its location. The fire was extinguished by firefighters, he added.

He pointed out that in Kherson and Berislav, the villages of Tiaginka, Pridniprovske and Mikilske were hit by 14 rockets, where one person was injured.

Meanwhile, the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine reported that nine Russian drones, which attempted to attack infrastructure in the port of Odesa on the Black Sea, were shot down on the morning of October 23.

Shrapnel from one of the downed drones damaged a warehouse and caused a fire, which was quickly extinguished, the military said, adding that no casualties were reported.

The Iranian-made Shahed drone attacks lasted nearly four hours, she said.

In the eastern Donetsk region, three civilians were killed in the past 24 hours, the regional governor, Ihor Moroz, said on October 23.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country would respond to such attacks.
