Tensions rise/ Israel's response to Hezbollah is expected

Damage from a rocket in the Golan Heights

Fears are growing of a wider war between Israel and Hezbollah after a rocket attack in the Golan Heights killed 12 people. Israel blames Hezbollah for the attack and has said the militant group will "pay the price".

The security cabinet authorized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to decide on the nature and timing of the response against Hezbollah.

Lebanon says it has received assurances from third countries that Israel's response will be limited.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah strongly denies it was behind the deadliest attack to hit Israel or Israeli-controlled territory since the October 7 Hamas attacks.

Several European countries have repeated calls for their citizens to leave Lebanon urgently./ CNA
