Robinson: The US will continue to support Kosovo in the field of security and

US Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, Todd Robinson, said Thursday that the United States will continue to support Kosovo in efforts to build core security institutions.

He made these comments after meeting with the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani in Pristina, as part of a two-day visit to Kosovo.

"The fact that I am here is to show support for what you are doing, for what your police are doing, what your security services are doing for the ordinary citizens of Kosovo. My message to them and to all of you would be that the United States is here to support you in your efforts to build core security and justice structures and we are working for a better Kosovo today and for a better Kosovo strong and transparent in the future", said Mr. Robinson.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said that the successes of the country's institutions are evidence of cooperation with the United States.

"Some of the most important achievements of our institutions have the seal of the Bureau led by Assistant Secretary Robinson, including the establishment of the Kosovo Police, which today enjoys the trust of over 95 percent of Kosovo's citizens. As well as the Forensic Agency, the Public Security Academy of Kosovo, which has educated generations of our police officers, as well as the Police Inspectorate, which as an institution is ensuring that professionalism is maintained and the law is respected at every step of our law enforcement institutions. ", President Osmani said.

President Osmani said that membership in Interpol remains a strategic goal for Kosovo, which she said would be impossible without the support of the United States.

"This membership would contribute deeply to the increase of our capacities, improving our institutional response to crime and strengthening our commitment towards guaranteeing public safety for every citizen of Kosovo without distinction. The only ones who benefit from Kosovo's non-membership in Interpol are criminals, especially transnational criminal groups, it is the common desire and will of Kosovo and the United States that they fight them to the end and without compromise", said President Osmani.

The Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, Todd Robinson, during his visit to Kosovo, will also meet with leaders of the security and judicial institutions, sectors that continue to be supported by the United States in strengthening the opportunities to fight corruption and organized crime./ VOA
