The base of Russia's strategic bombers is attacked with drones

Ukrainian drones on Wednesday attacked an air base of Russia's strategic bombers, which is located near the city of Engels in the Saratov region, Ukrainian intelligence sources told Radio Free Europe (REL).

The attack was planned and carried out by the Main Directorate of Military Intelligence of Ukraine, according to the sources.

The airbase, known as Engels 2, has been used by Russian strategic bombers to attack Ukraine.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that "targets were hit" by Ukrainian-made drones and that assessments are being made on the outcome of this attack. The sources did not say what targets were hit and how many of them were hit.

Earlier on Wednesday, the governor of Russia's Saratov region, Roman Busargin, said a drone attack in England was "repelled".

He said on Telegram that there are no reports of casualties or damage.

Engels residents reported on social media that they heard at least four explosions in the city.

Russia's Defense Ministry said four Ukrainian drones were downed over the Saratov region and another over the Belgorod region.

Engels, which is located about 700 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, was also attacked in 2022.

Meanwhile, at least two people were killed and several others wounded as a result of indiscriminate Russian shelling of civilian targets in Ukraine on Wednesday, Ukrainian military officials said.

The Ukrainian military said on Wednesday that 150 settlements in nine regions - Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Mykolaiv - were attacked by Russia in the last 24 hours./ Rel
