USA, primaries in five states, Biden and Trump continue the campaign

Five states are holding presidential primaries on Tuesday as President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump continue to campaign across the country after securing the requisite numbers of delegates for their parties' official nominations.

Mr Trump is expected to easily win the GOP primary in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Kansas and Ohio. The same is predicted for President Biden in all those states except Florida, where Democrats canceled the primaries and decided that all 224 of their party's delegates would count for Mr. Biden. This is not an unusual move for the party whose ranks include the current president who is seeking a second term.

Former President Trump and President Biden have focused for weeks on the general election, campaigning in states that could be decisive in November rather than simply those holding primaries.

Over the weekend, Mr. Trump held a rally in Ohio, a state that has voted Republican for several years. But there are signs that this year this state may be shaken.

Meanwhile, President Biden will visit Nevada and Arizona on Tuesday to campaign, among other things to win over Hispanic voters in these two states.

Both candidates are calling each other a threat to America. Mr. Trump, 77, has portrayed the 81-year-old Biden as mentally incompetent. The president has described his Republican rival as a threat to democracy after his bid to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Mr. Trump faces several legal challenges, including dozens of criminal charges and civil cases that he says are politically motivated.
