Vucic congratulates Putin on his election victory

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has congratulated his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on his victory in the presidential elections.

Vucic said that he delivered the congratulatory letter to Putin to the Russian ambassador in Belgrade, Alexander Bocan Harchenko.

"In it, in addition to congratulating him on his victory, I also explained the seriousness of the situation faced by the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, the great political challenges facing Serbia, and I thanked Russia for its support for the integrity territory of Serbia", said Vucic on Instagram.

The President of Serbia spoke with the Russian ambassador two days after holding the three-day presidential elections in Russia, which Putin won.

He easily secured 87 percent of the votes in the elections controlled by the Kremlin.

The West has said that it does not consider these elections to be free or fair.

The Serbian authorities have sent a delegation of observers to Russia to closely observe the election process.

Serbia is one of the few European countries that has not imposed sanctions on Russia for launching a war in neighboring Ukraine in 2022.

Official Belgrade relies on Russia's help in international organizations and other mechanisms, when it comes to the non-recognition of Kosovo's citizenship.

Serbia does not recognize Kosovo's independence, but has been in dialogue with official Pristina, through the mediation of the European Union, in Brussels since 2011.

The parties have reached several agreements, with the aim of normalizing relations, but not all of them have been implemented./ Rel
