South Korean chemical tanker sinks in Japan/ 7 victims and 2 missing

A South Korean-flagged tanker with a crew of 11 sank off the coast of Japan.

The tanker was anchored off the coast of Mutsure Island in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture.

The tanker was carrying about 980 tons of acrylic acid and had a crew of 11 on board.

Its crew called for help around 7:05 a.m. local time, reporting that the ship was capsizing.

Japan's Coast Guard said it sent boats and planes to rescue the crew, but only 9 people were pulled from the water.

7 of them unfortunately lost their lives, while 2 others are still missing, reports " The Japan Times ".

The crew consisted of 2 Korean nationals, 8 Indonesian nationals and one Chinese national.

It is suspected that this sinking of the ship happened because of the storm, as there was strong wind and high waves on the Japanese coast./ CNA
