The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has called early elections for July 4. In this contest, Keir Starmer will try to take power for Labor after 14 years of Conservative-led government.

The prime minister announced that the election would be held in early summer, a high-risk move for the Conservative party, which is 20 points behind Labor in the polls.

Sunak set July 4 as the election date after claiming inflation was under control and the economy was improving.

"I cannot and will not pretend that we did everything right. No government could, but I am proud of what we have achieved together, of the bold actions we have taken. I am sure of what we can do in the future", he said.

Starmer is tipped to become the next prime minister after transforming his party since its historic election loss nearly five years ago.
