Economic and social decline / DeSantis blames leftist ideas
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is running for the Republican Party's 2024 presidential nomination, has blamed "leftist ideas" for what he describes as a decline in Democratic-led cities and states. Recent polls show DeSantis, a Republican, trailing Mr. Trump by a margin ranging from 20% in a Reuters poll to 30% in a Quinnipiac poll.

During a rally in New Hampshire, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis blamed left-wing ideas for economic and social decline in Democratic-led cities and states. Mr. DeSantis is running to win the Republican Party nomination in the presidential election to be held on November 5, 2024.

"The ideas we fight for have value. The ideas we implemented in Flordia have worked."

Republican DeSantis cited the Democratic-run cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago, where social and economic problems are linked to the implementation of leftist ideas, he said.

"In the city of Naples (Naples-Florida), the value of real estate has increased. Every time home prices go up I know Chicago has done something stupid and people leave. They had a terrible mayor and elected an even more left-wing mayor."

Mr. DeSantis emphasized the importance of schools, adding that the education system does not replace the rights of parents.

"The purpose of our school system is to educate children, not to indoctrinate them. Parents have the fundamental right to the education and upbringing of their children".

Mr. DeSantis said that parents should decide what their children are taught in schools, while there are those who feel that parents should not know what lessons are being taught in their children's schools.

During the meeting in Hollis, Governor DeSantis was asked if Mr. Trump had compromised the peaceful transition of power in 2020.

"If this election focuses on President Biden's failures and our vision for the future, we will win. "If we go back to things that happened two or three years ago, we're going to lose," Mr. DeSantis said.

A month ago the governor of Florida announced his candidacy for the White House. Recent polls show DeSantis, a Republican, trailing Mr. Trump by a margin ranging from 20% in a Reuters poll to 30% in a Quinnipiac poll. In third place is former Vice President Mike Pence with about 7% support according to polls by Reuters./ VOA
