The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has reacted to the killing of the 17-year-old by the police, after the young man disobeyed orders to stop the car he was driving.

Macron said that the killing of the teenager is "unforgivable" and added that "nothing justifies" taking the life of a young person.

"We have a teenager who was killed. It is inexplicable, unforgivable", he said.

The French president's reaction comes after protests over the murder that engulfed the Paris region last night.

Nahel, was shot on Tuesday in his car after he did not stop when ordered.

A video circulating on social media shows a police officer pointing a gun at the driver of a car and then a shot is heard. Just after that, the car crashes.

The teenager died as a result of bullet wounds to the chest, despite emergency help.

The police officer who allegedly fired the shot was arrested on charges of murder.

Nael is the second person to be killed this year in France by police shooting in traffic. Last year, 13 people were killed in this way.

Nael's killing sparked a series of protests on Tuesday evening in Nanterre, an area west of Paris, where the teenager was killed.

Several cars and trash cans were burned, while bus stops were destroyed. At least 24 people were arrested after the riots.
