A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit southeastern Turkey and northern Syria on Monday, killing hundreds of people.
The death toll is believed to be 360, as health officials in the Syrian capital, Damascus, have reported that 237 people have died in areas controlled by the Syrian government.
Hundreds of other people are reported to have been injured in both states.
Turkey is located on one of the largest seismic lines and is often hit by earthquakes.
The epicenter of Monday's earthquake was about 26 kilometers from the city of Nurdagi and about 33 kilometers from the city of Gaziantep, the US Geological Survey said.
Turkish authorities said the victims were registered in seven provinces of the country. According to the Turkish Emergency and Disaster Management Agency, at least 440 people were injured, while the Syrian side said at least 516 people were injured. Earlier, the Syrian side said that at least 47 people were killed in rebel-held areas.
Turkey, where the epicenter of the earthquake was, is often hit by powerful earthquakes. Around 18,000 people were killed by the powerful earthquakes that hit the state in 1999./REL
