Seven people have been arrested in western Germany on suspicion of creating an Islamist terror cell, prosecutors said on July 6.
They are also suspected of supporting the Islamic State militant group.
The people arrested in Germany are from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan, prosecutors said. They were arrested in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Another man and his wife have reportedly been arrested by Dutch authorities. The man allegedly belonged to this group.
Prosecutors said the suspects entered Germany shortly after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and intended "to carry out high-level terrorist attacks in Germany, using tactics used by IS."
Prosecutors said the suspects had already identified potential targets in Germany and had attempted to secure weapons. However, they are not believed to have managed to develop any concrete plans for attacks.
The arrested are expected to appear before a court in Germany on Thursday or Friday./ Rel
