Fierce fighting has continued in the area of ??Bahmut, Liman, Avdijivka and Marjinka in Donetsk, the General Staff of the Ukrainian army said on July 5, adding that in the previous day there had been 40 combat clashes in these areas.

"Our fighters have continued offensive operations south and north of the city of Bahmut," the military said in its latest update on the war in Ukraine.

In the announcement it was said that more than 15 settlements were attacked by Russian artillery.

The Ukrainian military also said that the Russian military has intensified surveillance and sabotage activities in border areas near the town of Siverski.

Meanwhile, the governors of Kursk and Belgorod in Russia said that these regions have been attacked by Ukrainian forces across the border. According to them, the attacks took place in the early hours of July 5, but no victims were reported from these attacks.

"The city of Valujki is under fire from the armed forces of Ukraine," Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote in "Telegram" on July 5.

"Our air systems worked and there is no destruction on the ground," he added.

In a separate statement, Roman Starovoyt, governor of the Kursk region - which is north of Belgorod and also near the border with Ukraine - said a school and a private house were damaged in the attacks in the village of Tjotkino.

Late on July 4, the Ukrainian military said it destroyed a formation of Russian forces in Makiivka in the Donetsk region, while Russian-installed proxies accused Kiev of targeting a hospital, saying one civilian was killed and 36 injured. others were injured as a result of the attack.

"As a result of the effective attack of the defense units and forces, even a formation of Russian terrorists in the temporarily occupied Makhivka was destroyed," the Ukrainian military said on July 4.

The Russian-installed leader of Ukraine's Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin, said Ukrainian forces had carried out "fierce attacks" on residential areas and a hospital complex in Makiivka.

Radio Free Europe cannot confirm battlefield developments claimed by both sides in areas where there is heavy fighting.
