Germany to buy 60 American Chinook helicopters

Germany will buy 60 Chinook helicopters, manufactured by the American company Boeing, two members of the German parliamentary budget committee told the Reuters news agency on Wednesday. The purchase in question amounts to around 8 billion euros and also includes the necessary infrastructure for the helicopter. They said that the commission had made the decision on the purchase.

According to previous information, the amount includes the procurement of CH-47 heavy helicopters for 6.27 billion euros, 700 million euros for maintenance, 240 million euros for national contracts and 750 million euros for infrastructure.

A year ago, Germany said it planned to buy 60 Chinook heavy-lift helicopters from US firm Boeing to replace its aging CH-53 fleet.
