The White House has announced that US President Joe Biden has had a cancerous skin lesion removed and sent for a biopsy.

White House physician Kevin O'Connor revealed the biopsy revealed the lesion was cancerous.

"As expected, the biopsy confirmed the lesion to be basal cell carcinoma. All cancerous tissue was successfully removed. The area around the biopsy site was presumptively treated with electrodesiccation and curettage at the time of the biopsy. No further treatment is required," he said. Biden's doctor, according to Fox News.  

According to the doctor, such lesions "do not tend to 'spread' or metastasize" like other, more serious forms of skin cancer. He added that they could potentially grow in size and become a major problem.

"The President will continue dermatological surveillance as part of his ongoing comprehensive health care," he wrote.

Doctor and Fox News contributor Nicole Saphier addressed the revelations about Biden's condition in a tweet.

"President Biden had basal cell carcinoma removed from his chest," she wrote, including a photo of a healed lump on his chest. / CNA.al
