The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, said on Thursday that he supports the idea of ??organizing an international conference for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

He made these comments before the start of the two-day summit of the European Union, where it is expected to discuss the security situation in Kosovo and the process of normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

"I want to say that we also support the idea as soon as possible to organize a conference with several very active member countries of the European Union to support all mediation efforts in close coordination with the United States, because recently we have seen some difficulties becoming a reason for escalation and I think the time has come to have a global approach, the time has come to take clear steps in normalization", said Mr. Michel.

The idea of ??a high-level conference between Kosovo and Serbia was also mentioned by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama during his recent meetings with European officials in Brussels. Mr. Rama said that this conference would bring the parties together "and not allow them to leave the room without a solution, or otherwise face the consequences".

“Shtetet anëtare kanë vendosur që masat duhet të ndërmerren, ekonomikisht dhe politikisht në mënyrë që t’u bëhet e qartë se nëse nuk kontribuojnë për shtensionim do të vjen me kosto”, tha ai.

Bashkimi Evropian ka paralajmëruar se gjatë javës do të shpall masat ndëshkuese për Kosovën si rrjedhojë e mosndërmarrjes së hapave që janë kërkuar për të ulur tensionet në veri të Kosovës.

Kryeministri i Kosovës Albin Kurti duke komentuar mundësinë për vendosjen e masave të prazantuara nga Komisioni Evropian, tha sot se Kosova është partneri dhe aleati më i sinqertë dhe i qëndrueshëm i vlerave evropiane në rajon.

"At times we have been critical of the European Union, but never cynical or bitter. We are not even today. When we submitted our application for membership in December of last year, we did it believing that we deserve to be part of this Union in the foreseeable future, because we believe in this Union. We have the same faith today," he said.

The suspension of all working groups for the Stabilization and Association Agreement of Kosovo with the European Union, the suspension of financing of European Union programs, the disapproval of projects from the Fund for investment in the Western Balkans, as well as the suspension of meetings at political levels, are some of the punitive measures for Kosovo that are expected to be announced during the week by the European Union./ VOA
