Knife attack in Canada/ A professor and two students are hit

A professor and two students were stabbed during a lecture on gender issues at a university in the Canadian city of Waterloo. The local police confirmed that the attacker has been arrested.

The police said that the injured had received wounds, which did not present a danger to the lives of the injured, while the motives of the attack are still unclear.

The attacker was interviewed by investigators.

"There is no further threat to public safety either inside or outside the camp," said police in the city of Waterloo.

Nick Manning, communications officer at the University of Waterloo, identified the suspect as a member of the "university community," but declined to confirm that the person is a student. He said that two students and a professor were stabbed.

The lecture, in which the attack took place, spoke about the construction of gender in the history of philosophy through contemporary discussions.

"Our whole community is really concerned that this happened here. It's a big shock," Manning told reporters.

Yusuf Kaymak, a student at the University of Waterloo, told CTV News that he was in the classroom.

"The boy [attacker] came in and asked the lecturer if he was a professor, he said 'yes', then he took out a knife and after that, everyone went out," Kaymak said.

Kaymak said that about 40 students were in the classroom at the time of the attack./ REL
