Several Muslim-majority countries have condemned the burning of a copy of the Koran in Sweden in a protest that took place on Wednesday.
Salwan Momika was reportedly the Iraqi living in Sweden who set fire to a copy of the Muslim text in front of Stockholm's central mosque.
Middle Eastern countries including Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt strongly criticized the burning, the BBC reports.
And Turkey, a NATO member, called it a "disgusting act" the action that took place in the protest.
"It is unacceptable to allow such anti-Islamic actions to take place under the pretext of freedom of expression," the Turkish authorities stressed.
Muslims consider the Koran to be the holy word of God and view any deliberate damage or display of disrespect to it as deeply offensive.
Wednesday's burning of the Koran happened as Muslims around the world celebrated the first day of Eid al-Adha, one of the most important holidays in the Muslim calendar.
