Burning of the Koran in Sweden / Protesters attack the embassy in Baghdad

Tens of people protested in front of the Swedish embassy in Baghdad, after the burning of the Koran in Sweden.

A powerful cleric called for a fierce protest. Meanwhile, from the images published in the international media, the citizens entered the courtyard of the Swedish embassy.

An AFP news agency photographer said the crowd entered the building and stayed inside for about 15 minutes.

The protesters were driven away by local security forces, who intervened to defuse tensions.

This is one of dozens of protests that are taking place after the burning of the Koran during the Eid al-Adha holiday.

The copy of the holy book of the Koran was burned yesterday outside Stockholm's central mosque by Salwan Momika, an Iraqi living in Sweden.

The incident has also sparked outrage in other Muslim-majority countries, including Turkey, a NATO member that has a say in whether Sweden also gains membership./ CNA.al
