The President of Austria asks the parties to break the deadlock for the

Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen said on Wednesday that he cannot ask the far-right Freedom Party (FPO) to form a new government, even though it won the general election, as no party the other does not want to rule with him.

Therefore, he said he has asked her and the two other major parties to end the stalled talks.

The FPO, led by Herbert Kickl, won 29 percent of the vote in the elections held at the end of September, leaving the Austrian People's Party (OVP) in second place, which received 26 percent of the vote.

However, the FPO has failed to win the majority in the Parliament to form the new Government of Austria itself and must now form a coalition to lead the Government for the first time in its history.

Only the OVP has left the door open for a government coalition with the FPO, even though it has said no if its leader Kickl would be part of the new government.

The FPO insists that Kickl should be the new chancellor and that any governing coalition without the FPO would be a "coalition of losers" and a "slap" for the voters.

"We are in a completely new situation with a new election winner, with whom it is clear that no party wants to govern," Van der Bellen, who oversees the formation of governments, said in a televised speech after the talks. apart from him each leader of the five parliamentary parties.

"My talks [with party leaders] yesterday and the day before yesterday have strengthened this impression... a classic deadlock," he said, adding that Kickl has told him that the FPO will not lead a government without him as chancellor.

He said he asked the parties to look at what the possible coalitions are and then let him know.

"Do they really mean what they said? I know what is expected, of course, but I want clarity. Clarity for Austria", he added./ Rel
