Netanyahu's plans to take control of Gaza City and the "five principles to end the war"

Early Friday morning, after an hours-long Israeli security cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office issued a statement approving a plan to take control of Gaza City.

The security cabinet approved the plans by majority vote and included "five principles to end the war," the statement said.

“ The IDF will prepare to take control of Gaza City, while providing humanitarian assistance to the civilian population outside combat zones,” it said, detailing “the following principles for ending the war”:

Disarming Hamas

The return of all hostages - alive and dead

Demilitarization of the Gaza Strip

Israeli security control over the Gaza Strip

The existence of an alternative civilian government that is not Hamas or the Palestinian Authority

"The absolute majority of cabinet ministers believed that the alternative plan presented to the cabinet would not achieve the defeat of Hamas or the return of the kidnapped ," the statement concluded./CNA
