One of Italy's major airports was forced to close parts of its terminal today after a man reportedly set fire to counters and caused damage with a hammer.
Terminal 1 of Milan Malpensa Airport was partially evacuated after a fire broke out in the check-in area, according to the Lombardy Airports Association.
"The situation was quickly brought under control after the arrest of the person who set fire to and destroyed several registration counters," the association wrote in 'X'.
The suspect has been identified by Italian media as a 28-year-old Malian national. He is said to be due in court for a speedy hearing tomorrow.
The incident saw a man douse the registration counters with flammable liquid before setting them on fire, also damaging nearby walls and information screens with a hammer, according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. /CNA
