Zelensky: Talks with President Trump were a turning point for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that his country and European partners have taken an important step towards ending the war and ensuring the security of Ukraine and all of Europe.

In a post following his communication with European Council President Antonio Costa, Zelensky stressed that the talks held in Washington with US President Donald Trump were a turning point.

"Reliable security guarantees for Ukraine, which will work, are the most important achievement of our joint work, of all partners, and above all, of the Ukrainian courage that defended our independence," Zelensky said.

According to the Ukrainian president, the results of the European Council meeting and future joint steps were discussed. At the same time, he underlined the importance of unity and the unwavering support of the EU, noting that he and Costa agreed to continue close cooperation.

Zelensky also said the talks were about preparing the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia, stressing that pressure should be strengthened until Russia takes real steps to stop the war.

Finally, he stressed the importance of unity among all 27 EU member states in order to advance Ukraine's accession process and open the negotiation files./CNA
