Worst year of fires in Spain / More than 340 thousand hectares of land burned

Fires sweeping Spain have burned more than 340,000 hectares of land this year, with officials warning that 2025 is already the country's worst fire season in 30 years.

More than 40 fires remained active on Tuesday, according to local media, with four confirmed deaths and thousands of residents evacuated.

The most affected areas are León and Zamora in Castile and León, and Ourense in Galicia, where the flames have spread to neighboring Lugo.

Water-bombing planes flew over the fires and residents joined firefighters battling the flames meters from their doors.

Teams from across Europe, including Estonia, France, Italy and Slovakia, reinforced the Spanish teams as strong winds complicated the efforts. /CNA
