Massive operation against criminal gangs in Rio de Janeiro/ 64 victims recorded,

At least 64 people have been killed in a massive police operation against organized crime in Rio de Janeiro. The operation involved 2,500 police officers and 32 armored vehicles. According to reports, four police officers were among the victims.

The deadliest police operation in Brazil comes just days before Rio de Janeiro hosts major meetings linked to the COP30 climate conference.

“We stand firm against narcoterrorism ,” Governor Claudio Castro wrote on social media, announcing the operation in the Alemao and Penha favelas.

The operation was described by the government as the largest ever carried out against the Comando Vermelho gang. At least 56 people were arrested, while authorities attempted to execute 250 arrest and search warrants.

About 50 schools and health facilities suspended operations due to the clashes, while bus routes were modified to avoid areas of shooting. /CNA
