A global hunger crisis has left more than 700 million people wondering if or when they will be able to eat again, the head of the United Nations Food Agency, Cindy McCain, has said.

She told a meeting of the UN Security Council that due to a lack of funds, the agency has been forced to cut aid to millions of people and that "more cuts will happen soon".

"We are now living with a series of long-term crises, which will continue to increase the need for humanitarian aid. This is the new reality of the humanitarian community - the new normal - and we will continue to face such situations in the years to come."

The head of this agency - the widow of the late US Senator John McCain - has said that it is estimated that nearly 47 million people in more than 50 states are one step away from hunger and 45 million children under the age of five are believed to be facing malnutrition.

In other findings it is mentioned that 783 million people in 79 countries of the world sleep hungry every night.
