Charles McGonigal, to plead guilty in the Trump-Russia investigation/ Requests

Former FBI agent Charles McGonigal, who pleaded guilty to charges of conspiring with a Russian oligarch, appears to be on the way to a deal with justice.

Fox News reports that McGonigal will cooperate with federal court and plead guilty to another charge related to Russian influence in the 2016 US presidential election.

He has asked a federal judge in Washington, DC, for more time to work out a plea deal. 

This is believed to be the reason why Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly adjourned McGonigal's hearing on Monday.

The defense lawyer of the latter admitted that during this time an agreement will be negotiated.

We recall that McGonigal was involved in the investigation into the alleged ties between the former US president's campaign team and Russia in the 2016 election.

He allegedly played a role in the FBI's decision to launch its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible ties between former President Donald Trump's campaign and Russia, dubbed Hurricane Crossfire.

The former FBI official raised allegations that Trump, then a candidate for president, was coordinating with Russia for his election campaign in order to influence the presidential election.

MCGonigal is accused of making false statements and falsifying records and documents. For these charges, he can be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison./ CNA
