The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has called on Beijing to provide more information on the origin of the disease COVID-19.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told the Financial Times that he is ready to send a second team to investigate the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are pressuring China to give full access, and we are asking countries to raise this issue during their bilateral meetings, to call on China to cooperate," he said .
The WHO chief's comments come as health authorities and pharmaceutical companies around the world are updating their vaccines to combat new variants of the coronavirus that have emerged.
Ghebreyesus has long pressed China to share information about the origin of COVID-19, saying that until that happens, no hypothesis can be ruled out.
The virus was first identified in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019. Many suspect that the virus was spread by live animals found in the Wuhan market. The virus then spread worldwide, killing almost 7 million people./ REL
