He cut short his visit to the US/Here's how President Vu?i?'s health

News of Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i?'s hospitalization comes as he faces a widespread protest movement over a deadly accident at a train station in the northern city of Novi Sad.

After returning home from the United States, without meeting with US President Donald Trump, due to chest pains, Vu?i? was admitted to the Military Medical Academy immediately after landing in Belgrade, his office said.

A few hours after his admission to the hospital, cardiologist Dragan Din?i? told reporters that his condition was stable and satisfactory, which should allow him to be discharged from the hospital within the day.

According to Din?i?, who heads the Serbian military's health directorate, Vu?i? felt severe chest pains while in the United States, while American doctors recorded a high blood pressure measurement.

"American doctors performed all the necessary tests and the president, contrary to their recommendation, decided to return home," said cardiologist Dincic.

But Din?i? said it was unrealistic to expect the president to be able to fully resume his regular activities in the coming days, adding that Vu?i? had encountered similar problems three times in the past 10 years.

Vu?i?, elected in 2017 after three years as prime minister, was previously hospitalized in 2019 for heart problems. /CNA
